Salt: The Unlikely Stress Buster

Salt Stress Buster
Sometimes salt gets a bad rap. Although overconsumption of salt is often associated with numerous health problems, it is essential to keep the body functioning properly. We’re not telling you to grab the Doritos—warnings regarding highly refined table salt are not unwarranted. However, unrefined natural salt possesses a number of benefits for our nutrition and well-being.

Salt improves our overall health. Salt is the essential component of the body’s extracellular fluids, helps carry nutrients into the cells and regulates various body functions, including bolstering our immune system and enabling healthy digestion. Additionally, salt contains a large variety of minerals, many of which are missing from our daily diet but essential for optimal health.

Salt reduces stress. Insufficient magnesium levels put the body into a stress response state, but salt is rich in the mineral—and it helps combat stress in other ways. Ever feel at peace near the ocean? Apparently salt increases oxygen to the brain, which is good for stress.

Salt assists in detox. While this benefit isn’t typically linked to salt that’s part of the diet, bathing in pure salt can help detoxify the body. The warm water helps open pores, allowing toxins to be released and permitting minerals to be absorbed by the body.

Shower Power

Conserve Water. Help the Planet with Rizzieri Aveda School.

A recent national survey conducted by The Body Shop reveals some interesting findings: like that 69 percent of Americans would reduce shower time to conserve water and protect the environment. Did you know a typical showerhead uses about 7 gallons of water per minute? What about that the average person uses 70 gallons of water in their 10-minute shower? That’s 1,120 eight oz bottles of water. Here are some other stark stats:

• 34% of consumers polled think that a 10-minute long shower wastes only 10 gallons of water
• 67% of consumers polled admit to spending a maximum of 10 minutes in the shower
• 44% of consumers polled would be willing to cut their shower times by one to four minutes
• 53% of consumers polled believe that they could get clean in a three-minute shower

Conserving water is a great, easy way to help the planet. Aveda and Rizzieri Aveda School want to see you doing what you can to help our Earth in April (and all the time) in honor of Earth month!

Coffee or Concealer: Which Would You Choose?

Lipstick on Coffee Cup
I love chocolate, but on days when my skin is acting up, I love my tinted moisturizer even more. According to a new national survey, girls out there can relate. Apparently, women are more willing to sacrifice coffee, chocolate and even sex for one week rather than their favorite beauty product. Women are also more likely to give up a pair of their beloved shoes to airport security than their favorite skin care and makeup items. The survey, commissioned by L’Bel USA, set out to gain a better understanding of women’s attitudes on beauty and lifestyles and the products they can’t live without.

The study also found that 76 percent of women report that they carry a makeup/skin care- related product in their purse regularly, with lipstick or lipgloss topping the list. And where are ladies spending their paychecks? Fragrance. An estimated 25 percent of women would use their paycheck to splurge on fragrance, and one in ten women said that if they could use their paycheck to splurge on one beauty product, they would choose foundation. Are there any beauty products you would give up your coffee for?

Review Games at Rizzieri

We had a fun morning here at Rizzieri Aveda School!

Students and staff started the morning with the Cupid Shuffle! It got everyone in a good mood and got the energy flowing for the day! Next, our senior Cosmetology students played a review game for their state board exams. Before they could answer a question, they had to hula hoop for 5 seconds.

Check out these pictures from our fun morning!
