Men and women don’t always see eye to eye — especially when it comes to what makes a lady look amazing. While you might find a blunt and structured ‘do incredibly chic, there’s a really good chance he just finds it weird. In an effort to demystify what guys find sexy, we polled a handful to find out which hairstyles men really do prefer.
Retro Bangs
“I’ll always like that sort of late ’60s long bangs with longer hair look. Think Mary Jane, Spider-Man’s girlfriend. I’ve noticed that Rose Byrne, who seems to be in every other movie right now, has been wearing her hair this way, and it has certainly captured my attention.”
Vivid Hues
“Good hair will get my attention from across the room. I really like warm, vivid colors. The style itself, and whether it looks good, will change with the times and who is wearing it, but a great color will always get me.”
The Ponytail
“I love a simple ponytail and no makeup. I guess that’s the sporty look.”
Long and Simple
“Keep it simple! I like women with longer hair. It can be straight — slight curls are okay — but in general girls should keep it long and in good condition. I like it long because it looks more feminine.”
Messy Bob
“My personal fave is a messy bob. I cut my girlfriend’s curly red locks this way; it makes the back of her fair neck look so appealing. I’ve cut most of my past girlfriends hair. They always seemed to like it. I’m a serial bob-ist.”
Short and Punky
“I was always a fan of short, punky, pixie, black hair look.”
Long and Wild
“I love long, messy hair. Mary-Kate Olson and her messy bohemian look is hot. But I can also get down with a really structured short haircut. The trick is to match your hair with your face shape, and more importantly your persona. This may come as a surprise to a lot of women, but guys are much more perceptive when it comes to visual cues than we’re given credit for. Though many of us may not be able to verbalize, we do notice.”
Classic Coifs
“I like the more classic hairstyles, like Christina Hendrickson on Mad Men. Of course, that might also be my preference for redheads.”
Soft Layers
“I like long layers on a girl; it’s more interesting than just straight hair. Blunt haircuts make girls look too harsh, and they’re not contemporary — if her hair is too structured, it can be distracting and intimidating. Loose, wavy hair makes a girl look relaxed and approachable.”

Pixie Cut
“I love when a woman feels confident about her face to wear short hair. It’s strong and powerful.”

Depending on what state you live in and where you’ve traveled to recently, you might have noticed restaurant menus’ convenient (or not so convenient when you want a guilt-free indulgence) calorie count next to each item. Haven’t seen it yet? You will soon. Federal law will require even more restaurants across the country to display the calorie count on their menu in the near future. But how accurate are these calorie calculations?
According to new research published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, the answer depends on where you’re eating. The study evaluated foods from 42 restaurants in Massachusetts, Arkansas and Indiana.
Results show that fast-food restaurants’ calculations tend to be more accurate than sit-down restaurants. From all the restaurants examined, one in five of all the foods contained at least 100 more calories than what the menu listed. One-hundred extra calories a day might not sound like a lot but over the course of a year, those 100 extra calories can lead to a 10- to 15-pound weight gain, the researchers say.
Overall, the researchers found a difference of about 10 calories per portion. However, some foods were significantly off, with 26 common foods found to contain an average of 273 more calories than what was stated on the menu.
This can be problematic for dieters eating out and the researchers suggest that those counting calories allow for variability in restaurant menu calorie counts. Watch out for salad dressing, they also warn: it can potentially add hundreds of calories to a salad.
Does your favorite restaurant post calorie counts on the menu? If not, will it affect how you order?

Rizzieri New Jersey Cosmetology School and Aveda – tips for men’s longer, curly hair
At the Rizzieri New Jersey cosmetology school we often get questions about how to manage men’s longer, curly hair. Here are some tips from Aveda.
Aveda’s Kurt Keuffner, Director of Men’s Education at Aveda, gives classic how-to styling tips and tricks for men’s long curly hair. Keuffner recommends using Aveda Men Pure-formance™ Shampoo and Conditioner, Liquid Pomade and Aroma Spray.
Start with Aveda Men pure-formance shampoo and conditioner to get cleaned, conditioned, healthy hair. But then you need to choose the right styling product(s) based on your hair length, hair texture, hair pigment, and styling objective.
This video, offered by Aveda and the Rizzieri New Jersey cosmetology school, shows how to style longer wavy or curly hair.
As you just heard, moisture content matters when you are getting ready to style your hair. If your hair is too dry, it will be difficult to apply your styling products evenly. But if your hair is too wet, it will dilute your products and compromise your styling results.
With dark hair, the Aveda Liquid Pomade is ideal. But don’t worry about selecting the right products. The students and stylists at the Rizzieri New Jersey Cosmetology School are here to help! We can recommend what’s right for you and provide tips on styling.
Let us here at the Rizzieri New Jersey cosmetology school show you how Aveda products for men, plus the proper techniques will get you the results you are looking for.

Your hands are always out in the open, and there’s no way of hiding them (except gloves), which is why well-groomed hands and nails are of the utmost importance. Besides looking good, they are also a sign of good health—when your body is properly cared for from the inside out, it’s evident in youthful-looking hands and nails.
If your nails…
Have white spots: then you may have a vitamin or mineral deficiency.
Are thin and concave: then you may have an iron deficiency.
Are brittle and separate easily from the nail bed: you may have a thyroid condition.
Are overly thick or flakey: you may have fungal growth.

It’s important to fight inflammation from the inside out, but topical skin care that contains supercharged ingredients and proven antioxidants is an important piece of the anti-inflammation puzzle, too. There is a whole crop of inflammation-fighting ingredients in skin-care products today. While vitamins are some of the more noted anti-inflammatory agents, these key players also provide excellent skin benefits.
Ginger. Praised for its holistic healing abilities, ginger helps to mitigate the effects of inflammation because of its natural antioxidant properties, which reduce cellular stress.
Ginseng. Boasting more than 25 different antioxidants, ginseng works to regulate the release of enzymes that destroy the skin.
Vitamin C. Orally, vitamin C acts as an anti-inflammatory, and, when it’s applied to the skin, it helps to fend off free radicals while improving skin clarity, especially dullness, caused by sun damage. Vitamin C products and those that contain derivatives of the vitamin are especially beneficial for preventing sunburned skin.
Coffeberry. The fruit of the coffee bean is said to be one of the most potent antioxidants—three times more powerful than green tea.
Alpha Lipoic Acid. This rather small molecule packs a powerful punch. It affects how the cell is able to protect itself and helps get rid of scar tissue, a result of inflammation.
Mushroom Extract. Traditionally used in Eastern medicine, and becoming more mainstream, some varieties of mushrooms double as powerful antioxidants, scavenging off free radicals.

Laughter has been shown to have surprising benefits ranging from endorphin release to mood elevation. One study from the University of Maryland Center for Preventive Cardiology found that laughter even increased blood flow, which aided in blood vessel function. That’s not bad for something you can do for free. But does it have a place in a spa?
We couldn’t help but notice the buzz surrounding a new “tickle spa” in Madrid. The spa’s name, Cosquillearte, already indicates the main draw for spa goers. The Spanish word cosquillear means “to tickle.” However, we think of spas as bastions of relaxation. Tickling is more exciting than relaxing, isn’t it? Maybe not. Available in half hour and hour sessions, the tickle therapy takes place in a dimly lit treatment room, incorporates light massage, gentle fingertip touch and, believe it or not, a feather. So it doesn’t sound like getting pinned down and tickled by an older sibling, which I can tell you, as the youngest of three children, is not relaxing.
How do you feel about tickling as a spa treatment?
