Are You In Need of a Haircut?

Aveda haircare Image
Is it time for a haircut? Are you not quite sure? Well, Riccardo Maggiore, renowned hairstylists and owner of Maggiore Salon in New York City has all the telltale signs on whether or not it’s time to redo your ’do.

Sign #1: Your hair has no volume. If your hair is beginning to look flat, dull, boring—it’s time to take action! Hair without volume doesn’t frame the face or enhance your natural, gorgeous features.

Sign #2: Hair color matches your skin tone. You’ve probably over-processed your hair color. You never want hair to match your skin tone exactly—it will completely wash you out! A quick makeover fix would be to add lowlights to give hair dimension and contrast.

Sign #3: You’re starting to resemble a broom due to split ends! If you’re having a major split end problem, your hair is probably very dry and brittle. To bring hair back to life, you’ll need a deep conditioning treatment and haircut!

Sign #4: You pull your hair into a ponytail all the time. An occasional ponytail is fine, but if you find yourself pulling it back all the time, that’s no fun! You should want to show off your gorgeous locks, if you don’t, you’re probably in a hair rut. A fresh haircut, layers or bangs—something to add movement and bounce—will have you more eager to wear it down.

Sign #5: You’re not receiving compliments on your hair anymore! If your closest friends and family don’t even have anything to say, it’s definitely time for a hair makeover.

Sign #6: You’re in a cookie-cutter crisis! Have you been treating your tresses at home with the same products since middle school? Is your hair looking blah versus ooh la la? Seek professional help! Have an expert stylist examine your tresses, create a customized treatment, and create a list of “must have” products, perfect for your hair.

The easiest way to keep current? Start with a precise, versatile haircut, then adjust your texture and color as often as you like!

Coffee or Concealer: Which Would You Choose?

Lipstick on Coffee Cup
I love chocolate, but on days when my skin is acting up, I love my tinted moisturizer even more. According to a new national survey, girls out there can relate. Apparently, women are more willing to sacrifice coffee, chocolate and even sex for one week rather than their favorite beauty product. Women are also more likely to give up a pair of their beloved shoes to airport security than their favorite skin care and makeup items. The survey, commissioned by L’Bel USA, set out to gain a better understanding of women’s attitudes on beauty and lifestyles and the products they can’t live without.

The study also found that 76 percent of women report that they carry a makeup/skin care- related product in their purse regularly, with lipstick or lipgloss topping the list. And where are ladies spending their paychecks? Fragrance. An estimated 25 percent of women would use their paycheck to splurge on fragrance, and one in ten women said that if they could use their paycheck to splurge on one beauty product, they would choose foundation. Are there any beauty products you would give up your coffee for?

Can Shopping Prolong Your Life?

Shopping Picture
We know that you don’t need an excuse to go shopping, but as far as excuses go, this one has to top the list. It might make you live longer. New research suggests that regular retail therapy seems to have a connection with longer life. Surprisingly, the findings show that older men seem to benefit the most.

Research was conducted on almost 1,850 elderly Taiwanese people over a series of years. Participants were asked how often they went shopping in addition to other questions about their intellectual and physical capacities. Researchers tracked how long the participants lived by linking them to national death registration data.

The study took other factors into consideration but still found that those who shopped daily lived longer than those shopping less frequently. Daily shoppers were 27 percent less likely to die, with male daily shoppers 28 percent less likely to die, compared with female shoppers who were 23 percent less likely to die.

The authors of the study note that shopping itself may promote good health by ensuring a good supply of food for maintaining a healthy diet, for instance. Additionally, shopping among the elderly may not always be about making purchases but rather about seeking companionship and being active in a way that requires less motivation than scheduled exercise. Traditionally, we view physical activity as promoting health but later in life it is just as important to engage in social and economic activities for better health. According to the researchers, shopping captures many dimensions of personal wellbeing, health, and security while simultaneously contributing to the community’s cohesiveness and economy, and may actually increase longevity. So next time you’re feeling guilty about your credit card bill, remember shopping is good for you!

Get your shopping fix at the Aveda Lifestyle store at Rizzieri Aveda School in Voorhees, NJ – featuring a full line of Aveda products. This month, product specials include 20% off Smooth Infusion or any 1 product from a specialty  skin care line. Contact us today for additional information (856) 988-8600 x0.
