Banks and jewelry stores seem like an obvious target for thieves, but it’s hair salons and beauty supply stores that are being warned to increase their security. These stores and salons are being robbed of their wigs, extensions and weaves made of expensive hair that is imported from other countries.
Hair is a hot commodity for thieves since consumers are willing to pay hundreds of dollars per bundle in an effort to resemble stars’ long locks, like Kim Kardashian. One store in Chicago reports that they were robbed of more than $70,000 worth of human hair. Cities such as Atlanta, Detroit, San Diego and Houston have experienced their share of hair crimes as well. According to several reports, illicit hair markets are even popping up around the country and salon owners have reported random vendors trying to sell them hair.

Did you know that Rizzieri works each year to raise money for the Clean Ocean Action through our Walk For Water? Last year, the staff and students raised $10,000 to donate to this charitable organization.
Clean Ocean Action’s goal is to improve the degraded water quality of the marine waters off the New Jersey/New York cost. Clean Ocean Action stops ocean pollution with a continuous, relentless effort using research, education, and citizen action to convince our public officials to enact and enforce strict laws to protect our marine resources for today’s and future generations.
